This reminds me of a couple of months back when I noticed a series of chalk arrows on the path beside the river as I was walking home. They went on for over 500 metres and when I left the path...they were still there! And when I turned into my street, they did too! I followed them home... Never did find out why they were there.
When we were kids we played "tricky trackers" all the neighbourhood kids would gather, make 2 teams and one team would head off leaving confusing and misleading chalk signs for the other team to decipher and eventually find them at someone's home.
